School stories—that is, stories whose primary setting is school—comprise a large percentage of the children's books currently on bookstore and library shelves. The fact that there is such a vast number of children's books with school settings is hardly surprising since children between the ages six and eighteen spend on average thirty hours a week in the classroom.
