The Missouri Association of the Deaf (MoAD) is the oldest and largest nonprofit, consumer-based organization of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people in the state of Missouri. MoAD was founded in 1904 by the alumni of the Missouri School for the Deaf and incorporated in 1907. The MoAD, as a nonprofit, tax exempt (501.C.3) organization, is supported by its members and others who are interested in furthering the MoAD goals.
A variety of interchangeable terms have been used to describe persons with physical handicaps. For example, these individuals will often be categorized as physically disabled, physically impaired, crippled, orthopedically impaired, other health impaired, or multiply handicapped. The legal definition for orthopedically impaired is a severe orthopedic impairment that adversely affects a child’s education performance (IDEA).

Wolfner Library is a free library service for Missourians who are unable to use standard print materials due to a visual or physical disability. Materials are mailed to and from library patrons at their homes, postage paid. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron. Currently, over 11,000 Missourians actively use Wolfner Library.
